What Christmas is All About and Winter Snowman

shelter projectEvery Christmas I take some of the students from the school I teach art at to the shelter near our house to decorate cookies and bring collected items for the children living there.  I am always amazed each year how much stuff our small school can collect.  Proof that we all can make a difference in peoples lives.  This year we collected two large suburban car loads 🙂  We had clothes, books, and stuffed animals galore.  The sisters and aspirants came with us.  Bittersweet Bistro donates cookies to decorate and these are the best cookies ever.  And finally Target donates gift cards for all the children.  It is truly a community effort and it always marks the start of our holiday within our family.  I am ever so grateful to all that help make this happen we are truly blessed to have these people in our lives.

So I am giving you a double dose of blog today…this week was crazy.  I was wrapping everything but presents for my own family.  Shelter gifts, gifts of art from my students but we had time to do this fun snowman project with the second grade so I had to share it with you.  Most of you artsy people have most of the supplies at home so do this with your kids, nephews/nieces or family over the break.  It makes you want to smile.  And Happy Holidays…remember all that you have this season and we can all make a difference in the world 🙂
